The world and women together

A friend recently sent me a BBC article entitled Reading the world in 196 books – journalist Ann Morgan set out to read a book from every country in the world over the course of 2012. That’s a little more defined and ambitious than my project here but it was fascinating to read about her experiences. It also got me thinking about some of the difficulties I might face in attempting to read not just books from around the world, but stories by women in particular. I knew it would be a challenge, I just figured I had some time before I got to countries like the Comoros so hadn’t considered yet how I would manage that…

Incidentally, after scoping out Morgan’s blog, I discovered she spent 2011 reading only women authors. So without knowing it (and without giving myself the impressive timeframe of a year) I guess I’ve sort of combined her projects here. While that does make me feel slightly less original, it’s handy that someone’s blazed a bit of a trail and I can now scour her list of initial recommendations for ideas of my own.
