The Book Thief – an update

The Book Thief film won’t be widely released for another week or so, but I’ve seen it. And it was…

pretty good actually. I was, as mentioned, quite fearful going in because I adore the book and please Geoffrey Rush don’t ruin it!

I don’t want to give anything away, but overall I was impressed (though again, out of anxiety, had kind of low expectations). There was one liiittle thing towards the end that bothered me – overdramatization for Hollywood’s sake in what is already a rather dramatic story – but I’ll get over it. And Sophie Nélisse, who plays Liesel, did a pretty phenomenal job. So spend your next week reading the book, because of course it’s still better on paper, then check it out once it hits theatres.
